Pairing Rules (FIDE Swiss)
Rule 1 — Score group pairing
Players sorted by score (desc). Top half of each score group paired against bottom half. S1[1] vs S2[1], S1[2] vs S2[2], etc.
Rule 2 — No repeat pairing (Mandatory)
Two players who already played CANNOT be paired again in the same tournament.
Rule 3 — Colour balance
Players alternate White/Black each round. No player should have same colour more than twice consecutively.
Rule 4 — Float rule
If a player cannot be paired within their score group, they float DOWN to the next score group. Float up only if necessary.
Rule 5 — Bye (Odd players)
Odd number of players → lowest-ranked player in lowest score group (who has NOT already had a bye) receives bye = 1.0 point.
Rule 6 — Tiebreak order
1. Score · 2. Buchholz (sum opp. scores) · 3. Buchholz Cut-1 (remove lowest) · 4. Direct encounter · 5. Number of wins · 6. Rating
